Danse Macabre, 2013, 2min 06sec, single channel HD video, looped

The video is a nostalgic journey and visual exploration of the monumental beauty of Gdansk Shipyard’s cranes that has become, in Polish collective memory, a symbol of ‘Solidarity’ movement and political struggle, and has permanently been saturated into the landscape of the city.  The very dramatic nature of Preisner's music reflects on past and future existence of the cranes and the Shipyard place.

In 1980 the Shipyard was the arena for events that marked the beginning of organized resistance to Communist dictatorship, which next contibuted to the eventual collapse of communism across eastern Europe. After the fall of the regime the Gdansk Shipyard was sold to the private owner, and since the place has been falling into slow oblivion and desrepair.
